The 12th national Voters Day was celebrated by the office of District Election Officer North Goa at Institute Menezes Braganza in Panaji today. Collector and DEO North Goa Shri. Ajit Roy IAS was the Chief Guest for the function. Additional Collector –I Shri. Gopal Parsekar, Additional Collector –II Miss. Mamu Hage IAS and Nodal Officer For SVEEP Dr. Gervasio F.L Mendes were also present on the occasion.
Collector, Shri Ajit Roy, IAS asserting that this day has great significance said “I request everyone to go back in history and see why 25th January was chosen as National Voters Day as you will realize that the concept of Republic voters comes first so before the Republic you have to have voters day . In the election exercise, voter occupies central places, he added.
Highlighting the upcoming election management he said the preparation at polling station is done keeping voters in focal point and provision is made for the basic facilities i.e water, light, walking ramp for those voters who may need assistance in accessing polling station have been made available in all polling station in North Goa. The polling stations will be fully sanitized, including arrangements of sanitizers, masks, etc for everybody. He urged the people to motivate everybody to follow the Covid appropriate behavior.
The function began with lighting of the traditional lamp which was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Gervosio F.L. Mendes.
Shri Ajit Roy, IAS felicitated Miss. Madhu Gupta a transgender who has encouraged other transgender to leave a life with dignity; Dr. Geeta Kakokdar for her contribution to get done the voters ID, ration card and aadhar card for commercial sex workers and transgender and Smt. Rajeshree Khandeparkar for making seed balls, Plants sampling and distributing them to NGOs and other social organizations. Election officials from various constituencies from North Goa were also felicitated on the occasion.
The awards for Best Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) was bestowed on Smt Sneha Gitte, IAS Thivim Constituency, while the awards for best Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) was awarded to Shri. Krishna Gawas, Thivim Constituency. Awards for Best Booth Level Officer (BLO) were given to Shri. Krishna Kankonkar.
The three initiatives undertaken by the office of District Election officer North Goa for voter awareness i.e a thoughtfully designed mask which has QR code on it, to facilitate any citizens encounter election related issues or problems they can scan the code with CVIGIL app and communicate their grievances; second initiatives is the whatsapp stickers which public can use to promote the voter awareness and the third one is the song composed by the Miss. Urvashi Naik, Shri. Balchandra Chopdekar and the students of Government College Sanquelim keeping in mind the right to vote concept.
