Panaji, Date : 02nd February 2023 : Goa witnessed the inauguration of the 1st International Environment & Sustainability Summit Goa 2023 (IESSG) on 2nd February 2023 at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim, Goa. The International Summit will be held from 02/02/2023 till 04/02/2023 was inaugurated by Shri. Nilesh Cabral, Hon’ble Minister for PWD, Environment and Climate Change – Govt. of Goa, in the distinguished presence of Mr. Arun Kumar Mishra, IAS, Secretary, Environment, Government of Goa, Shri Anirudh Agrawal, Vice Chairman, CII Goa State Council & Managing Director, Agrawal Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Mahesh Patil, Chairman, Goa State Pollution Control Board & Dr. Shamila Monteiro, Member Secretary, Goa State Pollution Control Board on Thursday.

Minister for PWD, Environment and Climate Change Nilesh Cabral said that in order to achieve a sustainable goal, citizen’s participation is important and regretted not getting support from citizens for the solar power scheme, wherein applicants used to get fifty percent subsidy, introduced by him when he was power and environment minister. Cabral was speaking after inaugurating the 1st International Environment and Sustainability Summit Goa (IESSG) 2023 organized by Goa State Pollution Control Board at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao.
Speaking further, Minister Nilesh Cabral highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of achieving a sustainable environment and asked stakeholders to ponder upon budgetary provision of Rs 19700 crores made for national green hydrogen mission and Rs 35000 crores for the energy transition.
In his speech , CII Goa State Council vice chairman and Agrawal Renewable Energy managing director Anirudh Agrawal said that the theme of the summit ‘building a sustainable future’ , which is very relevant because of India’s G20 presidency and further said that the foundation for sustainability should be laid at a young age as the same is imperative for future. Agrawal also said that as part of their corporate responsibility , his company invites and encourages students to visit their solar manufacturing plant so that renewable and sustainable energy can be part of their career option and requested the government to introduce renewable and sustainable energy as part of the curriculum.

Environment Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra said that although the topic of sustainable development started in 1948 but Greenland report in 1982 defines sustainable development as when ecology balances the economy and the economy balances ecology without affecting each other. Goa State Pollution Control Board chairman Mahesh Patil delivered an inaugural talk and Goa State Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Shamila Monteiro proposed a vote of thanks.
About the Event : The International Summit will be held from 02/02/2023 till 04/02/2023 at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim, Goa. The IESSG is organized by the Goa State Pollution Control Board in partnership with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Radeecal Communications, CSIR, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
