  3. ABOLISH CONTRACT SYSTEM FOR GOVT JOBS: GOA FORWARD

Goa Forward delegation meet Superintendent of Fisheries and submitted a memorandum demanding to make Konkani Mandatory for Sagar Mitra post advertised by the department. He said that ‘we will take this matter to logical conclusion, if demands not met.

The Memorandum pointed out that other states like Tamil Nadu specified their local language, Tamil in the advertisement. Karnataka published it entirely in Kanada. They questioned why the Government of Goa is ‘shying away from specifying Konkani.’ They added that the scope by the Goa Government allows candidates from outside States to apply rather than restricting to the neighbouring States only.

Goa Forward general secretary Mohandas Lolayekar stressed that the government should abolish the contract system. “They shouldn’t take anyone on contract but permanent basis. If the Government takes this contract system, it’ll give a chance to the private players.  It is crime that makes workers suicide, lose their mental balance, and finishing of family.” He added that once the term of contract is over than one has to extend and by then the age factor of the candidate comes in.
