  3. AMONKAR CALLS FOR STRICT ACTION AGAINST THE GAS PIPELINE CONTRACTOR

Taking a strong stand about the 22 hour power outage at Baina Sada and Bogda due to damage to underground cables by Adani Gas pipeline contractor, Mormugao MLA and Congress leader, Sankalp Amonkar urged the Government, police, and electricity department to file an FIR against the group and arrest the contractor over the issue. He said, “Lot of people have suffered without it being their fault. There has been loss to ice cream business, fishermen, households etc. Who is responsible for this?’

Amonkar said that before any work, they are supposed to take the cable maps from the PWD and electricity departments. It wasn’t done in this case.

He also questioned the levels of safety on the laying of the gas cables. “Who is checking about their safety? We seen in the NAFTA issue. Who’s got the map to the gas pipeline?’

He warned that Adani shouldn’t take people of Goa for granted. “I will take responsibility because they are playing with lives. I ask the Government, police to start an inquiry, arrest and fine them. Locals are fined but they are given free hand.”
