Citing unsafe conditions at night and security issues, the protesting Anganwadi workers wrote a complaint to the Chairperson of the Goa State Commission for Women. In the letter, they cite,
‘We have been witnessing criminal activities in and around the Azad Maidan specially at night and we are being harassed by the people who infact are migrants and who drink, smoke, litter, and create a nuisance at night. Some men drink and come and sleep in between us and we have to get up, we stay awake all night for our own safety.’
They have video evidence of the activities going around the Azad Maidan and no action on those miscreants, have been taken. No police personal have been delayed at night and no patrolling done.
Advocate Hrudaynath Shirodkar, Leader of the Anganwadi workers stated that Goan women are unsafe. “All this is happening infront of the police station. We appeal to Government to do something for women safety.”
He added that this Government is vindictive and they think they can do anything because of a majority. “But we will not stop until we reach our goal and ask the Government to reinstate them,” he said.
