Benualim MLA, Captain Venzy’s recent comments that MLAs take 10% commission for work sparked a battle of words with opposition criticizing the first-time MLA for his ‘generalised comments.’ Capt Venzy, addressing a press conference on the issue of commission yesterday said, “There is nothing like ruling and opposition, the commission is taken in all constituencies. We need to create awareness and everyone will be vigilant. In time, the contractor will come forward and say they won’t give a commission. Finally, it is the tax payers’ money going towards the commission. Money can be used in a better way. As AAP, we have come forward to fight this corruption. The political will is coming from our side, let us fight together.”
Capt Venzy earlier had said, ‘It’s been an agreed that the contractor pays 10% commission to the MLA’S for the work of PWD in each constituency. I will not take this commission. I shall keep a close watch and monitor the quality of every work.
Reacting to his statement, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai tweeted, “I have been an MLA for 10 years, and a lot of infrastructure development has happened during my tenure. I can challenge anyone to prove that I have taken a single paisa as ‘commission.’ Being new and enthusiastic doesn’t give anyone the right to anyone to generalize. Good luck. Speak for yourself!.

Sidharth Kuncalienker, BJP, was the next to react:

Dear Venzy Viegas, The 10% commission by #PWD contractors may be norm under the Aam Adami Party Govt at Delhi. Please refrain from making generalized statements & get on with working for People of your constituency.
