Margao – BJP Government in Goa encouraged mass corruption in administration with its “Mission 30 Percent Commission” which has ultimately resulted in the National Games moving to Gujarat. The decision of the Indian Olympic Association is a slap on the So-called Double Engine BJP Government which failed to create the necessary infrastructure for the National Games in last ten years, charged Congress Working President & MLA Yuri Alemao.

There was mass corruption in all the projects initiated by the Government for National Games, which resulted in substandard work. Crores of Rupees were spent on the refurbishment of stadiums & sports complexes. The corruption was exposed by nature itself when 300 tin sheets of Nehru Stadium at Fatorda were blown away by the winds 2 years back. Recently the top ceiling of the same stadium collapsed stated Yuri Alemao.
The signs of poor-quality work are already visible at the stadiums built at Pernem, Navelim which need urgent attention. Government failed to construct the Swimming Pool at Panjim in time. The swimming pool at Margao is also non-operational for last many years. The Government also miserably failed to get good Coaches on board to train the Athletes representing Goa. There was no preparation to ensure Goa won maximum medals during the National Games. The shifting of the games is in fact a blessing in disguise for the Goans as the poor preparations would have brought shame to the State in place of laurels, claimed Yuri Alemao
The Government made fortunes from various events organized in the name of the National Games. The former Sports Minister gave a new identity to the BJP Government with his “Mission 30 Percent Commission”. It is high time that a probe is initiated to investigate all the expenditure incurred on various projects of National Games, demanded Yuri Alemao.
