While our DGP Jaspal Singh is sincerely trying very hard to ensure that his police force performs honestly and dedicatedly, it seems to be an uphill task.
Today at 1.45pm, the Panaji Traffic Cell team of four was outside Don Bosco High School at Panaji. Three cops were sitting inside a four wheeler while one (possibly the collection agent) was on a two wheeler.
This Panaji Traffic Cell team managed to intercept a person who was riding a DIO bike without a licence. This law breaker needed to be definitely punished in accordance with law.
But those traffic cops, in total abuse of Power demanded a bribe of Rs 12,000 to let him go. After some wrangling they later agreed to Rs 5000. And finally caved and pocketed Rs 2000 for which obviously no receipt was given.
Money was drawn from the closest ATM and the cops were paid in cash and must have had a merry celebration this afternoon.
It is an admitted fact that the Godfather of all this organized corruption at the Panaji Traffic Cell is officially on leave this week, but his radar and greed on the corruption never fades which is why with political blessings he has managed to hang on and return to the very lucrative Panaji Traffic Cell.
Let us hope our DGP Jaspal Singh will order an immediate probe into this afternoon’s disgusting affair and more importantly post an honest and sincere officer to head the Panaji Traffic Cell.
The rotten apples within the Goa Police needed to be axed for DGP Jaspal Singh’s untiring efforts to bear fruit.
