MARGAO: Canacona PI Tukaram Chavan and constable Jaiprakash Pagi were on Thursday placed under suspension over the issue of obscene photograph and video of a female model which circulated on social media three days ago.

Following suspension the irate villagers withdrew their protest. The Canacona police had already registered the case against the female model in this regard.

Cuncolim PI Therron D’Costa has been given the charge of Canacona police station.

Representatives of political parties under the banner of Jagrut Goemkar on Wednesday had threatened to observe Canacona bandh on Thursday, November 5, if the authorities fail to initiate action against involved in allowing the female model to shoot at the Chapoli dam on Sunday.

Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes and government officials including officiating Quepem SDPO Nelson Albuquerque met the protestors on Thursday morning and informed them that the government had already suspended the Canacona PI and the police constable, who was present at the dam at the time of video shoot.

The protestors also demanded action against the officials of Water Resources Department (WRD), who they alleged had allowed the female model and her staff to enter the dam and commit act of vulgar videography of singing and dancing in an open place much to the annoyance of the citizens.

The protestors further charged that the WRD officials spruced up and painted the dam to allow the shoot featuring female model from Mumbai. They accused WRD officials for opening the locks of the dam and allowed the female model and her crew to enter the dam and shoot pornographic video thereby hurting the religious sentiments of the devotees of Lord Mallikarjun.

However, WRD assistant engineer Allabaksh Kundagaol who had already filed a police complaint against the unknown person/s denied allegation and clarified that the work of painting Chapoli dam was tendered in December last year and that it was not painted because of the shooting.
