CCP THREATEN TO BOYCOTT CARNIVAL FLOATS PARADE IN PANAJI IF ROUTE IS CHANGED
PANAJI: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Thursday threatened to boycott 13th February Carnival Floats Parade in the capital city, after the North Goa Collector Ajit Roy disallowed the parade on the traditional route along Dayanand Bandodkar road.
The parade was earlier planned from Divja Circle, near Old Mandovi bridge to Kala Academy, Campal-Panaji.
The Collector who held a meeting on Wednesday instead directed that the Carnival Floats Parade be held from Miramar to Dona Paula road, away from the city as it was causing traffic jam.
From last year the CCP had changed the floats parade route from Miramar to Dona Paula to Old Mandovi bridge to Kala Academy following public requests.
CCP Mayor Madkaikar, who is also the chairman of Panaji Carnival Celebration Committee, hoped that the Goa Government would reconsider their request and change the route.
This year the Department of Tourism had planned to organize Carnival Floats Parade in Panaji and Margao only due to COVID-19 pandemic.
