The two day orientation programme for Swayampurna Mitras from both districts of North and South Goa concluded today. The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant attended the function as a Chief guest. Around two hundred class one officers from various Government department deputed as Swayampurn Mitras participated in the programme.
The Chief Minister appreciated all the Government officials who are deputed as Swayampurna Mitras in its endeavour to make Goa Swayampurna. He said they are done a remarkable job as they have applied their own mind, vision, application of innovative ideas to accomplish the goal of Swayampurna Goa.
The Chief Minister recalled that prior to liberation we were self reliant but have became dependent soon after liberation. We need to work with specific objective and focus on achieving the same. As we are celebrating 75 years of Indian Independence and 60 years of Goa Liberation he said we have to work seriously to become self sufficient in terms of food products like milk, vegetable, chicken, foodgrains, other food items, fodder etc. We are producing cashew, mango, coconut in Goa but the productivity of these crop is declining which is a matter of concern and the need to work in the right direction. Nothing is impossible because there are some Swayampurna Mitra who have helped the needy people in villages not only in thousands of rupee but in lakhs without spending a single pie of exchequer but have availed help from various CSR stake holders for which they need to be commended.
The Chief Minister said the objective of cultivation of potato in Goa by ICAR in future will give boost to agriculture in the State. He said he was pleased to inform our swayampurna Mitras are working in such a fashion which indicates that we stepping towards becoming self reliant ie: Swayampurn Goa. 
Director ICAR Dr Pravin Kumar said that he was pleased to organize orientation programme for Swayamurna Mitras as suggested by the Chief Minister. ICAR began in Goa as Regional Research Institute which was last 45 years back have succeeded in creating Socio economic impact on Goan Society’s. He enlightened the Chief Minister about his future vision towards the agricultural progress in Goa. Through ICAR, they would strive to co-operate with the Government towards making Goa Swyampurna, he added.
Director of DPSE Dr. Y. Durgaprasad assured the Chief Minister that they would endeavour to make Goa self sufficient in various sectors as determined by the Government.
