North Goa district president Vijay Bhike, vice-president of Goa Pradesh Congress Samiti Pramod Salgaonkar, Mapusa Congress candidate and former chairperson of Mapusa municipal council Sudhir Kandolkar, Congress youth president Varad Mardolkar, Mapusa block president Shashank Narvekar, vice-president of North Goa District Congress Committee Sripad Dhond, secretary and Congress Mapusa District incharge Pranav Phadte
and other party workers welcomed the inductees.
Saidutta Korgaonkar and others including Shamir Ansari, Swapnil Naik, Shailesh Shinde, Rahul Naik and Umar Sayed also joined the party.
Bhike said that the youth feel that Goa needs a Congress government, and hence many social workers are expected to join the party in Mapusa from other parties in the coming days.
“Although Sudhir lost by around 1,100votes the last time, he will win by 2,000-3000 votes this time. Mapusa has not witnessed development and this will change. I urge Goans, especially Mapusa locals, that if you want to see witness development then they need to change the MLA. We need your support. We need to ponder over Goa’s identity, Goa’s culture today, and if we need to protect it then Congress is the only option,” he said.
To a question on Aldona ticket aspirant Tarak Arolkar joining TMC from Congress, Bhike said that Arolkar is not loyal and has switched parties multiple times. Bhike said that Arolkar first quit BJP and joined Congress around one and a half years ago, and now resigned to join TMC.
Bhike also urged all party workers to set aside any differences and support the candidates selected by the party.
Mardolkar said that BJP has failed to deliver.
“The Mapusa MLA was voted with the expectation that Mapusa will witness development and that youth will get jobs. However, he has failed. We see hope in Sudhir Kandolkar and the Congress party, that they will do good for Goa and Mapusa. We are confident that Congress will win in Mapusa with a thumping majority,” he said.
Kandolkar said that Sudatt Korgaokar and his supporters have joined Congress in the interest of the youth, and with an aim to usher in change in Mapusa.
“The present MLA has no plans for the youth. Jobs have gone to people in Valpoi, or ministers have themselves been accused of selling jobs. But our Mapusa legislator has not raised his voice for the youth. Our Mapusa youth have not benefitted in any way. And now they are now fed up. We also need to create sporting infrastructure for the youth in Mapusa and that will be our focus,” he said.
Sudatt Korgaonkar said that BJP has ignored the youth in Mapusa.
“They are many educated and talented youth who are unemployed. Although the government announced 10,000 jobs, it appears that the talent is only present in Valpoi,” he added.
General secretary, North Goa Congress District Committee Adv Amit Sawant compered the function while general secretary, North Goa Congress District Committee Firoz Khan gave the vote of thanks.
