Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain along with Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate Valmiki Naik and other AAP leaders released AAP’s vision manifesto for Panaji on Tuesday promising to create alternative sources of revenue for the city, six-monthly Ward sabhas and making Panaji a world-class city.
Satyendar Jain said that Panaji is the capital city of Goa and one of the most sought-after tourist destinations. Nevertheless, Panaji no longer appears to be a capital city. Hence, AAP’s Panaji candidate Valmiki Naik has outlined a vision to revamp the city’s infrastructure.
The AAP Panaji candidate Valmiki Naik outlined his vision for the city. Naik aims to create alternative sources of revenue that will expand Panaji’s economy which is currently dependent on casinos. His goal is to make Panaji a family-friendly tourist destination by preserving heritage sites and Panaji’s rich culture.
“Ease of Living Index released in 2020 states that Panaji ranked 16 on the ease of living scale. The ease of living index focuses on quality of life, economic ability, sustainability and citizen perception. The city of Panaji fared poorly in terms of economic ability, sustainability, and citizen perception. My goal is to improve these aspects, and to bring Panaji into the top 10”, said Valmiki Naik.
Adding he said, “The party will hold Ward Sabhas every six months if elected to power, similar to Gramsabhas, which are held in villages. The MLA will be accompanied by councillors, PWD officials, police and Smart City officials to hear the issues of the people”.
Naik asserted that Panaji is a 175-year old city and was once a planned city. From waterbodies to drainage system everything was planned. However, in modern times, Panaji has been experiencing unplanned development on a large scale.
He said, “Increasing unemployment, destruction of heritage, parking problem, traffic congestion, flooding, pothole roads, and casinos have become the main concerns of the Panaji constituency. Today, a total of 1000 Ponjekars live in slums. This situation was brought about primarily by the BJP”.
Naik said that the biggest lie of the BJP and Babush was their false assurances on jobs. They have destroyed not only the future of Panjim’s youth by keeping them unemployed, but they have also squandered their hope for a better future. by fooling them with the carrot of government jobs.
“Only a few chamchas of the MLA and relatives of his councillors have been hired. Monserrate’s own son received the plum govt position of Mayor, despite not having any experience or merit for the post”, Naik added.
