
The Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Campal celebrated Doctor’s Day 2022 today to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the illustrious physician, freedom fighter and statesman Late Dr. B. C. Roy. Secretary Health, Shri. Y.V.V.J. Rajasekhar, IAS was the Chief Guest for the function held in the premises of the Directorate. Other dignitaries present included Director (DHS) Dr. Geeta Kakodkar, ex-Director (DHS) Dr. Jose O.A. D’sa, Health Officer, CHC Sankhali Dr. Uttam Dessai and Senior Pathologist, North Goa District Hospital, Dr. Varsha Munj.
Secretary Health, Shri. Y.V.V.J. Rajasekhar, IAS, in his address appreciated the role of doctors in the State and the particular stepping up of doctors in public health services during pandemic times. He said their services were exemplary. He thanked the doctors, nurses and para-medical staff who worked like silent revolutionaries during Covid-19 pandemic.
He further underscored the importance of stress management among doctors and assured support in such training in future as well.
Earlier, Director of Health Services, Dr. Geeta Kakodkar welcomed the gathering. In her address, she highlighted the role played by the doctors in public health services and appreciated the responsibilities they shouldered relentlessly during the pandemic times. She stated that ‘Medicine cures the diseases but doctors cure the patient”. She expressed gratitude to all the staff for working in tandem with the doctors to implement Government programmes and initiatives successfully in the state.
The doctors felicitated during the function included Dr. Jose D’sa (Ex-Director DHS) for his exemplary work during COVID times, Dr. Varsha Munj (Sr. Pathologist, NGDH) for her work in up-gradation of NGDH Laboratory including molecular Laboratory, Dr. Datta H. Bhat (Ex Dy. Director AYUSH) for his efforts to develop AYUSH section and his tireless work in providing AYUSH medicine and services during COVID times, Dr. Uttam Dessai, (Health Officer, CHC Sakhali) for obtaining NQAS certification for CHC Sankhali and Dr. Utkarsh Betodkar for his excellent work during COVID times.
This was followed by a guest lecture given by Senior Psychiatrist, North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, Dr. Rajesh Dhume. He delivered a talk on “Stress Management among Doctors”. He described what stress is, how it can be recognized and what steps may be taken to deal with stress. He reiterated the role of mental health in the overall health and well-being of an individual.
The function was attended by the heads of all sections, senior doctors, consultants, medical officers, paramedical and administrative staff of the Directorate of Health Services.
