  3. EDIBLE CITY DRIVE ON 5 JUNE IN PANJIM

With Goa losing it’s green cover, planting more trees is vital. On World environment day, 5 June unlike other tree plantation drives, the Botanical Society of Goa, CCP, and Rotary Club of Panjim Riviera are starting a pilot project called Edible City Drive. Daniel D’Souza, President, Botanical Society of Goa, shares, “It is similar to a tree drive but we are planting fruit bearing trees. Some of these trees would include Mancurad Mango, Pomelo (Toranj), Local lime, Avacado, Chickoo, Guava, Water apples, Bananas Awla, Jamun, Jamun, and Pomelo.”

The drive is aimed to feed the needy. “We want the underprivileged children to benefit from this. Trees like love apples and jamun can quench the thirst in summers. Along with CCP, the Edible City Drive will look at a larger area of Panjim. We have lost so much of tree cover,” he adds. He appealed to all to plan a tree on World Environment Day.

The drive will be organized on 5 June, at 10.00 am in Campal.
