FC Goa scored a solitary goal win over Panjim Footballers in the Selvel Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
Mevan Dias scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute to give the Gaurs their second consecutive win of the season. Meanwhile,Panjim are yet to register a win in the competition.
In the 12 minute, FC Goa stretched the opposition defence when Lal HP threaded long diagonal pass to Velory on the right flank who played a cut back pass to Mevan Dias, however, the last-named fired wide.
FC Goa broke the deadlock in the 18th minute through Mevan Dias. Deeshank whipped in a corner kick which the Panjim team failed to clear. The ball fell to Aditya Salgaocar, whose off-target shot was guided in by Mevan, who was in the right place at the right time.
In the 28th minute, Janio came with a goal saving tackle when Deehsnak was through on goal and with just the leeper at his mercy, before the striker could react, Janio slided in a tackle.
Panjim football registered their first goal on target from a set-piece however; Irfan’s freekick which was sailing in the top left corner was saved by FCG keeper Hansel Coelho.
In the 39th minute Ivan Costa came with a crucial save for FC Goa when their keeper Hansel Coelho was beaten by Irfan. However, the Panjim striker sent in a weak shot which allowed Ivan to clear the ball to keep their lead intact.
There were not really many clear cut chances created in the second half. Though the play was more end to end, it failed to create any goal scoring opportunities.
At the hour mark, Jovial Dias made an attempt from a shot from outside the box which was cleanly collected by Panjim keeper Preston Rego. At the other end, Lokesh attempted a screamer from a distance which narrowly sailed over the crossbar.
Panjim relied on long deliveries in the area which didn’t faze out FC Goa much. Irfan, trying his best tried to get from the left flank to centre before hitting a poor shot which was way off target.
In the dying minutes of the game, Delton Colaco fired a shot from outside the box, which went past the post.

UC Telaulim win
United Club of Telaulim made light work of Young Boys of Tonca with a huge 7-0 win in the Goa Football Association Vedanta Women’s League played at Dramapur ground, on Friday.Stessi Cardozo was the highlight of the day as she smashed in give goals including the injury time strike to score five goals in a single game. The winners led 3-0 at the break Stessi opened the scoring in the third minute while Karen Estrocio doubled the tally for the winning side in the 20th minute. At the half hour mark, Stessi completed her brace. In the second half, Rizella Almeia also got on the score sheet with a goal before Stessi smashed in three more goals.Francis Fernandes, former junior National hockey player, awarded the player of the match to UC Telaulim’s Stessi Cardozo.
