Jose Philip D’Souza, NCP today gave a proposal to Fisheries Minister, Nilkant Haldankar regarding the Vasco fishing jetty. “We briefed him about the various issues at the Vasco fishing jetty. We gave it in writing to him. The Government has spent a lot on all jetties but Vasco jetty has been neglected. Before monsoon, we would propose for maintenance. Last year, the Minister didn’t do anything.”
In their proposal, they have requested to take maintenance work of jetty which has been not done for last two years and also extend jetty as 200 boats can’t be accommodated on this jetty. “The 60 meters isn’t enough. We have asked for a temporary extension, he said.”
They also asked to raise the VAT received from the Govt which is Rs 6 on Rs 20.
Replying to their Proposal Fisheries Minister, Haldankar said he will take work of Maintenance in the next two months during the fishing ban. Jetty can’t be extended.
Replying to VAT subsidy Minister said he will look into this matter as other jetties have given proposal on this.
