MARGAO: Former Minister Joaquim Alemao and his son Yuri Alemao rejoined Congress Party at a function organised by the South Goa District Congress Committee at Margao on Saturday evening.

They were welcomed into the party by Congress President Girish Chodankar, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, former Chief Minister and MLA Luizinho Faleiro, South Goa District Congress Committee president Joseph Dias and others.

After welcoming the duo into the party, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar lashed at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He alleged that in 2017 Assembly elections, the mandate of the people of Goa was for Congress Party but it was robbed by the BJP and formed the government against the wishes of the people.

Without naming the party, Chodankar also made a scathing attack on Goa Forward Party stating that there are some parties who re family members of the BJP but to be their opponents during elections and then help them to come to power.

He said AAP is the ‘B’ team of BJP and has been contesting elections only to split votes and help the BJP. He said because of AAP candidates, Congress lost four seats by slender margins in 2017 polls.

Chodankar claimed that the Congress is the only party which has always taken decisions in the interest of the people. Congress has the distinction of revoking its own decisions bowing to the wishes of the people.

The GPCC president declared In 2022 Assembly elections, 25 to 30 tickets will be given to youth and new faces. He expressed people of Goa will vote Congress to power and will teach a lesson to BJP and its allies in the next elections.

Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat praised Joaquim Alemao for undertaking several developmental works in the State especially in Cuncolim and Sanguem constituencies.

Kamat appealed to the party workers to be prepared to face the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Yuri Alemao said that though he was a commercial air pilot, he joined his father and started working for the betterment of the people.

“I am a commercial air pilot by profession. After completing my training in Australia, I returned to Goa to make a career in flying. But when I reached back Goa, I realised that I need to remain grounded and work for the people. Hence I joined my father and started working for betterment of people,” said Yuri.
