On the occasion of the 8th International Day of Yoga, Goa Medical College held hourly Yoga Sessions for the students of 1st MBBS for a period of 10 days which culminated with a large-scale celebration on 21st June 2022 (International Day of Yoga) attended by over 200 students who practiced common yoga protocol followed by a Yoga Nritya Performance.

The yoga session was performed by the Chief Guest Dean Prof. Dr S.M. Bandekar, Dr Fatima DeSouza, Prof. & Convenor Foundation course and Dr Mahesh Kamble Joint Director Academic. The Dean Prof. Dr S M Bandekar encouraged the students to practice yoga as a routine rather than a celebration as it requires no investment but the returns are guaranteed which is priceless. He also emphasized the need to introduce one-hour yoga sessions daily for Medical Students as the mental stress is tremendous. He also talked about the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. The session was conducted by Dr Joy Pereira, Assistant Professor, and was also assisted by his team from Gomantak Ayurved Mahavidhyalya & Research Centre, Shiroda, Goa. Dr Fatima De Souza stressed on the mandatory requirement of NMC to be fulfilled by Students during Yoga sessions. Dr Mahesh Kamble proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Joy Pereira and his team were felicitated by the hands of Dean with a certificate of appreciation and a plant sapling as a momento.
