Goa is committed to achieve the goal of being a welfare State which will assure minimum food, shelter, health and education to every citizen for their prosperity, stated Governor of Goa, Shri. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.
Speaking after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day held at Campal, Panaji today, Governor Shri. Pillai said that it is the duty of every citizen to protect the sovereignty of the nation. `Over the years, though our constitution has undergone several changes, its integrity has been preserved. Our constitution is a very strong and versatile document that binds the diverse cultures of the country and preserves its unity` he added.
Governor appreciated the decision of declaring January 23 as Parakram Divas on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Commemoration of this day will instill the young generation with courage and pride that will inspire them to work for greater glory of the nation, he said.
The natural beauty and tranquility of the State, vibrant culture and hospitality of the people, flora and fauna have contributed to the growth of tourism in the State. Governor stating that the tourism industry has been badly hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed that there will be a healthy revival in the days to come.
As the state is in the midst of Assembly Elections the Governor Shri. Pillai appealed to all the voters of Goa to enthusiastically participate in the voting process by following COVID protocols strictly. He also urged the people to pledge to remain faithful to the Constitution of the country in letter and spirit.
Governor informed that the over 98% of the eligible population in Goa have been fully vaccinated including people in the age15-18 group and booster dose for people above 60 years. He lauded the efforts of the doctors, frontline and health care workers for their remarkable service towards protecting people against the pandemic.
Governor also underlined the impressive achievements of the State to its credit such as highest per Capita income, third place in the country for the Human development Index, best performing State for the third time in food safety Index, best for its infrastructure. In sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Goa has stood 4th rank in the country by securing score of 72 as against 75. Goa is the only State to become achiever of two SDGs Clean Water and Sanitation and Alternative clean energy, he pointed.
Earlier the Governor Shri. Pillai received the ceremonial guard of honor and inspected the parade by Defence troupe, troupe of Maharashtra Police, Coast Guards, NCC cadets and Home Guards.
Governor Shri. Pillai awarded President Medal to Superintendant of Police Shri. Sammy Tavares for his extra ordinary service to the Police Department. Police Inspector Shri.Dattaram Raut was awarded the President Medal for his extraordinary service. Director Civil Aviation Dr.Suresh Shanbhoge and Security Officer, Secretariat Shri. Sebastiao M. Godinho were also felicitated for their tremendous service to the State.
Chief Minister Dr.Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Tourism Shri. Shripad Naik, First lady Smt. Rita Pillai, Chief Secretary Shri.Parimal Rai, IAS, Secretaries to Government, Senior Defence Officers and Senior Officers of State Government and Central Government were present on the occassion.
