Ugly Scene in Capital of Goa – Panjim, narrated by an Assistant Professor of Goa University. This situation is in every part of the State. Goa is now a “Free for All” Destination with absolutely no control of Administration. I once again urge Chief Minister to act. Better late than never, demanded Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Reacting to a Social Media post of Aditya Sinai Bhangui, Assistant Professor of Hindi in Goa University who narrated his experience of encounter with drunkards in Panjim, Leader of Opposition has raised alarm on deteriorating image of Goa.
Few days back, we had raised concerns about menace created by drunkards at the historic Azad Maidan in Panjim. It appears that Government has not taken any lessons from the incident. Drunkards continue to harass people, Yuri Alemao said.
I do not understand why the Government is hesitating to take action against drunkards, beggars and other anti-social elements? Every traffic signal in Goa is captured by Beggars, Every bench in a Garden or Promenade is occupued by a Drunkard, Every Bus Stand is full of Anti-Socials, claimed Yuri Alemao.
In the last Assembly Session, I had raised the issue of preservation and protection of Historic Places in Goa and brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that places like Lohia Maidan, Azad Maidan, Various Martyrs Memorials are not Notified as “Places of Historic Importance”. I was assured by the Chief Minister that he will do the needful. I hope Government will take some action, stated Yuri Alemao.
I was shocked to see a video of a “Free Style” fight on one of the beaches in Goa going viral. Our beaches are full of illegal masseurs, touts and drunkards. There is no machinery in place to act against the miscreants. How long we will continue with this “Ugly Goa” image, questioned Yuri Alemao.
It is important that Goa is promoted as Clean, Safe and Secure Tourist Destination. Government must focus on maintaining law and order in the State. Tourism Department must stop intruding in scope of other department works and focus on better tourism, let Jetty Policy rest in peace, Yuri Alemao said.
