Highlighting the reply of Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Rameshwar Teli to a question tabled by Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho Faleiro on the rising unemployment rate in Goa, TMC leaders Trajano D’Mello, Mariano Rodrigues and Pratibha Borkar slammed the BJP led government for the high rate of unemployment in the state at a press conference held at the party office in Panaji.
Taking on the BJP-led government heavily for the high rate of unemployment, Goa TMC leader Trajano D’Mello said, ‘It was revealed in Parliament that Goa’s unemployment rate is 10.5 percent, which is more than double the national average of 4.2 percent.’ He further added, ‘According to a recent CIME report, Goa’s unemployment rate sharply increased from 11.6 percent in January to 13.7 percent in July.’
Slamming the Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, for abdicating his responsibilities and failing the people of Goa, D’Mello said, ‘The government is no longer in a position to assure jobs to the people of Goa and by blaming the teachers, the CM is using them as a scapegoat to hide his incompetency.’ Adding on, he asserted, ‘The BJP government cannot keep silent on the matter. They have failed to create more jobs in the state.’
Exasperated by the BJP-led government’s failure to motivate the youth of the state, D’Mello said, ‘The government has failed to motivate the youth to pursue higher education. Even the graduates in the state are unemployed.’ He further elaborated, ‘Is our education system imparting the required skills to produce employable youth? Rather than focusing on improving the education system, the government is busy rewriting history.’
Asserting the party’s demand, D’Mello said, ‘Goa TMC demands the BJP-led government to come up with a proper employment policy and to ensure that the same is implemented to have gainful employment.’
