  3. GOVERNOR EXTENDS REPUBLIC DAY GREETINGS

The Governor of Goa, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has extended his heartiest greetings and warm wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of 73rd Republic day.

In his message, the Governor has said today we remember with deep gratitude all the great leaders who contributed to the making of our Constitution, particularly, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who is renowned as the Architect of the Indian Constitution.  The preamble of our Constitution begins with the resolve of “we the people” demonstrating that the people are supreme in our country and everyone else is subordinate to them.

The Governor further added “In the Republic Day calendar this year, January 23 has been declared as Parakram Divascommemorating theBirth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose the founder of Azad Hind Fauj who fought valiantly against the British for freedom.  The Nation is indebted to this iconic leader and I am sure the observance of this day will inspire the young generation to do great deeds for our nation.  On this occasion we also remember the sufferings and sacrifices of the Indian Air Force who have commendably safeguarded our country and maintained India’s unity and territorial integrity.

Our nation has progressed remarkably during the last 75 years. Presently the 75th year of India’s Independence is being celebrated as Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.  Nation-wide various programs and activities connected to the five themes – Freedom Struggle, Ideas at 75, Achievements at 75, Actions at 75 and Resolves at 75 are being conducted with Jan Bhagidaari.  I would like to enjoin all the people to enthusiastically participate in these activities, the Governor added.

While stressing on the pandemic the Governor further said that, the Covid-19 pandemic continues to bother us even today but we stand strong and confident to fight the virus because of our remarkable vaccination achievement. It is indeed commendable that we have been able to administer over 1.6 billion doses and have been able to successfully keep the Covid-19 pandemic at bay. These vaccines have been indigenously researched, developed and manufactured by our brilliant scientists and are a demonstration of fulfilling the call of Atmanirbhar Bharat. We have been able to show to the rest of the world that we are second to none in producing medicines and vaccines that met the highest world standards.

I am happy to state that 98% of the eligible population in Goa has now been fully vaccinated including people in the age group 15-18 and booster dose for people above 60 years.  On this occasion I would like to salute all the doctors, frontline and health care workers for their remarkable service towards protecting people against the pandemic, the Governor added.

Goa is renowned for its communal harmony. People across religions have been living in unity, fraternity and solidarity. All festivals are equally respected and celebrated by all communities. The people of Goa have a tradition of peace and friendship. Let us resolve to preserve this unique cultural heritage of Goa, the Governor asserted.

Voting for the Goa Assembly Elections and formation of new Government is scheduled to take place on February 14, 2022. The makers of our Constitution have gifted us with universal adult franchise. It is therefore the duty of every citizen to exercise this right to vote. I would like to encourage the Goa electorate to cast their vote without any fear or favour. I am confident that the elections this year will be free, fair, peaceful and safe, he said.

On this historic occasion while exhorting all the people to remain faithful to our Constitution in letter and spirit, let us dedicate ourselves to the realisation of “Self Sufficient New India.”

Wishing you all a very Happy Republic Day the Governor concluded as informed by the Department of Information and Publicity.
