The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) celebrated its 45th Foundation Day with the launch of the ‘Foundation Day Lecture 2022’ at the office in Panaji on Tuesday.

The Lecture series was planned two years ago but was on hold due to the pandemic. The topic for the inaugural lecture was GUJ…a timeless journey. The resource persons for the lecture were three founder members of GUJ, Cyril D’Cunha, Gurudas Singbal and Gurudas Sawal.

GUJ was founded on July 26, 1978. The journey started at the Patto flat of Gurudas Singbal, who explained how the Union came to be formed and the challenges they faced.

Sawal and D’Cunha recollected their days as journalists and the transformation that the profession has undergone over the years.

Veteran journalist Rajendra Dessai was the moderator.

GUJ president Rajtilak Naik thanked the founder members for agreeing to attend the event and share their views, despite not being in the best of health.

GUJ treasurer Kailas Naik compered the function while GUJ secretary Vasudev Pagi proposed the vote of thanks.
