IMA Goa State President Dr Rufino Monteiro, Hon .Secretary Dr Amol Tilve, Hon Treasurer Dr Dayanand Naiyan along with Dr Shekhar Salkar past president IMA Goa state had a meeting with newly appointed DGP of Goa Jaspal Singh on 07 April 2022 and presented him a copy of Memorandum presented to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant regarding attacks on doctors and filing of wrong FIRs by police leading to death by suicide of Dr Archana Sharma in Rajasthan recently. Dr Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa , had noted on the Memorandum about sensitization programs for Police Inspectors regarding handling of cases against Doctors alleging medical negligence.
DGP Jaspal Singh was very much concerned and said he would look into the matter and soon organize a sensitization program with in next 15 days for all Police Inspectors at the Police Headquarters Panaji . He suggested that Doctors from DHS as well as IMA and GOA medical council could be involved in sensitization programs.
Dr Rufino Monteiro also requested DGP Jaspal Singh to look into formation of Patient Redressal Committee as was mentioned in the Goa Medicare Act so that all cases alleging medical negligence could be deliberated by the committee before a legal response is contemplated.
DGP Jaspal Singh said that he would take up the matter with Chief Secretary of Goa and do the needful.
The IMA requested DGP Jaspal Singh to designate a nodal officer of the rank of DySP/ SP , for issues regarding doctors safety and to share his number to all doctors of Goa. Doctors in need could contact this nodal officer for all safety issues concerning them.
President also requested him to follow up on amendments to be made to section 6(3) of goa Medicare act of 2013 as the present DGP , the than IGP had written letter to that effect to law secretary on 27/1/20 .
