She said, whenever we talk about our constitution we talk about our rights she said and at the same time pointed out that we should think not just about our rights but about our duties as well. One of our most critical rights as well as duty is to vote. While India marks its 73rd Republic Day, Goa is on the threshold of an important election. With the Assembly elections coming up she urged all eligible voters to exercise their right carefully without fear and remembering the fact that millions of our countrymen laid their life so that each of us enjoys this right equally without any discrimination. Smt Katyal further said, we can best honour the memory of our founding fathers only when we vote, keeping the interest of the State and Nation in the mind and rising above any parochial considerations.
Smt Katyal stating that a rebel for a cause is a keyword, appealed to rise for the right causes and fight towards eradicating evil and rebel in a manner that respects our democratic ethos. Taking a strong stand against those who lie and divide the society – it’s all part of being a good citizen and more importantly a better human being. It is indeed a noble aim to have a decent attitude to keep towards Nationalism, she added.
She further said that, what we should all know about republic day is that many gave their lives and liberties so that we can have this guiding document – the constitution of India. We have the most wonderful constitution in the world. So if we reduce republic day ceremony to a ritual we are letting India down.
