  3. KHARIWADO FISHING COMMUNITY CONFRONT GCZMA INSPECTION WITHOUT NOTICE

Khariwado fishermen community residents confronted Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) members after they visited the area to conduct inspection at Khariawado without giving any notice or intimation to the residents on Tuesday.

Later, Viriato Fernandes Congress leader said that during an awareness meeting, they were told that GCZMA members have come for inspection. Fernandes further said that the members of GCZMA admitted that they haven’t informed the residents of Khariwado beforehand about this inspection. The team informed they have come for the inspection for the jetty by MPT. He reminded them that as per Government announcement that no work would be undertaken until the Coastal Zone Management Plan is finalised and it amounts to contempt of court. “There were quietly conducting the inspection without people knowing,” he said.

Local Councillor Moti Monteiro have also condemned such a move by the government authorities which he felt is against the interest of the fishermen community.
