During Covid-19 Pandemic, many trains which used to halt at Canacona Railway Station was cancelled along with many other railway stations as precautionary measure to avoid mass transmission of disease. Now everything is normalized after Covid pandemic but still things are not changed at Canacona Railway Station. Though trains are not resumed to take halt at other railway stations, many trains are not still taking halt at Canacona, thereby creating a lot of hardship for people of Canacona. Earlier travelled to South India (particularly Kerala) or Mumbai from Canacona was more hassle-free than now. But now people from Canacona need to travel to Margao or Karwar railway station which are too far from Canacona & as such Canaconakars need to spend more time & money on railway journey.
To solve the woes of Canaconakars in respect of railway journey, a delegation of Present & Ex-Councillors of Canacona Municipal Council, Social activists & office bearers of Canacona Block Congress & Youth Congress met South Goa MP shri. Francisco Sardinha to appraise him the issue of non-stoppage of trains at Canacona Station. The delegation handed over a memorandum to the Hon’ble M.P. & informed him the various difficulties faced by the people of Canacona.  The delegation also informed that now travel to Kerala or other parts of India is more expensive, more troublesome for people of Canacona & if trains take regular halts at Canacona railway station like earlier, the problem of people travelling by railway will be resolved. The memorandum particular mentioned the three train, namely; (1) 16345-Netravati Express; (2) 12618-Mangala Lakshadweep Express & (3) 22150-Ernakulam SF Express & requested the Hon’ble MP to resolve this issue with consulting the Konkan Railway Authorities at the earliest.
The delegation was led by Janardhan Bhandari-State General Secretary, GPCC along with Sameer Dessai-Ex Chairperson, CMC Canacona, Dhiraj Dessai- Councillor CMC Canacona, Shubham Komarpant- Councillor CMC Canacona, Mahadev Gaonkar-Ex Sarpanch V.P. Khotigao, Shekar Dessai-Social Activist, Pralay Bhagat-President Canacona Block, Vaishnav Pednekar-President, Canacona Block Youth Congress, Manesh Naik Gaonkar-General Secretary, Canacona Block Youth Congress. Mr. Francisco Sardinha assured the delegation that he will take up the issue on priority basis & try to resolve this issue with the help of Railway authorities at the earliest.
