The state of the roads in and around Goa’s capital city with the flooding that is witnessed is horrifying. If sincere curative measures are not taken, in the years to come we would have to travel across the city on motor boats with driving licenses issued by the Captain of Ports.
Experts have for years been predicting that Panaji will see flooding and possibly be submerged on account of the rampant unplanned concrete structures mushrooming all over. It is inappropriate and uncalled for to blame the rains for the flooding. Instead of placing experts on Planning and Municipal bodies to advise the authorities, chums of politicians have been appointed with ulterior motives and the results are there for all to see.
Interestingly, at the road in front of and around Panaji MLA Babush Monserrate’s mansion and his two hotels at Miramar, there has been no flooding and those roads are intact with no potholes. This is not a miracle but only clearly demonstrates that where there is Will there is a Way. When will those in Power come to terms with the fact that Public Interest must always supersede Personal interest? Planning and Development of any city must be by professionals with expertise in the field and not by Politicians who only focus on pecuniary gains.
