Ponda locals demand rumbler strips to control speeding vehicles on the Highway and internal roads. According to Hanumant Naik, the Kavlem – Khadpaband Junction in absence of Rumble strips has become dangerous for locals who want to cross the road with their bikes and vehicles. He said there is a need for these strips as the junction is on a slope and vehicles on the Highway travel at high speed. There is chance of accidents to bike riders while crossing junction.
Few years back one car driver died while crossing junction. This junction has become death trap in absence of safety measures to control speeding vehicles. He demanded government immediately install rumble strips at unsafe junction.
Viraj Sapre speaking to media said the Rajiv Kala Mandir road recently has been widened. However in the absence of speed breakers or rumblers on the road, the youth speed with their vehicles injuring some locals. He said so many people visit the Rajiv Kala Mandira to watch programmes. The road has become dangerous even to cross towards the Kala Mandir. The road has 12 metre width. Sapre said the traffic police need to control this and bring speed checking machines to issue fines for safety of locals.
