The Union Minister for Tourism, Culture & Development of North Eastern Region of India, Government of India Shri G. Kishan Reddy in the distinguished presence of Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Ayush (IC) Shri Shripad Naik, and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manohar Azgaonkar, inaugurated the helipad at Dhauji Old Goa today.
The Union Minister for Tourism Shri Reddy while speaking said Goa is an important tourist destination in the country. People across the globe see Goa as the best tourism destination. It is required to provide the requisite support to tourism in Goa. My Ministry will extend as much as cooperation to Goa. A lot many people come to Goa as tourists putting pressure on infrastructure. We will fulfill the genuine needs of Goa with regards to tourism development as it occupies an important place on a national level, he remarked.
Shri Reddy speaking further said that as Goa is celebrating sixty years of its liberation, the central Government will ensure everything to help Goa to boost tourism. He assured to extend all sort of support through his Ministries and informed that he intends to come next month in Goa to conduct a survey in regards of necessities of Goa to strengthen infrastructure and other amenities for tourism.
The Chief Minister while speaking said that the Government has created its own helipad by spending around five crores of rupees. He thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy for their cooperation in creating a helipad for Goa. The helipad will help to encourage heli-tourism in the State. The Helipad would be used by the Government or private to cater and provide a boost to tourism in the State. He appreciated the efforts of all those who have contributed to the construction of the helipad and declared the helipad open from today.
General Manager Shri Deepak Narvekar while speaking informed that the Department of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation LTD (GTDC) intends to introduce Heli Tourism as a new arm for the promotion of tourism activities in the State. Helipad has been constructed for under “Development Of Coastal circuit I in Goa under Swadesh Darshan Scheme Of Ministry Of Government of India at Old Goa today.
The Department of Tourism had acquired this land at Old Goa on the banks of river Mandovi. The said land has been developed for Heli-tourism. Regular Heli tours and related activities will be conducted from this site which is expected to promote high-end tourism in the State. Under this project, VDF flooring for an area of 4550 sqm and a compound wall for a length of 490 meters for safety purposes has been constructed. Scope of work of Parking facilities for tourists, Reception with Coffee House, Access Tower for security, Parking Bay for Helicopter, Gated compound wall with barbed wire fencing, illumination on the periphery of Helipad, Private access Road has been completed at a total coast of rupees 4.9 Cr. The site would be handed over to the operations and managing partners for which tendering process is underway to select the edible bidder. Heli tours from the site are expected to begin in December 2021 after all the permissions and approvals are in place
