Sancoale Panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop notice to Marman Shipyard in Sancoale after residents complained of dredging activity.
Speaking to media, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai informed that the shipyard has not applied for any permission from the panchayat nor the Sancoale Bio Diversity board.

“We received a complaint signed by several residents yesterday that the shipyard was allegedly carrying out dredging activity and we have immediately issued a stop work notice to the shipyard. The shipyard has neither informed us nor taken any permission from us. I am also a member in Sancoale Biodiversity board and I can safely say that even the biodiversity board has not been informed. We will carry out a site inspection tomorrow at the shipyard to check on the complaints. We will never allow any activity that is opposed by the residents of our Sancoale village” said Pillai
