MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Thursday appealed to the Goa government to scrap three infrastructure projects – railway double tracking, national highway expansion and Tmanar power project in the larger interest of people.

He also appealed to the Sawant government to reconsider decision of allowing reopening of casinos as it could result in rise in COVID-19 cases in the State.

Speaking to reporters in the presence of South Goa District Congress Committee president Joseph (Joe) Dias that Margao, Sardinha congratulated the people for their protest at Guirdolim-Chandor railway crossing on Sunday night and said it is the duty of the government to stop these mega projects.

He demanded that former Congress legislators namely Minister Filipe Nery Rodrigues and MLAs Clafasio Dias and Wilfred (Babashan) D’Sa who switched to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should convince Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant the need to stop these controversial projects in the interest of the people.

“Do you have more love for BJP or for Goa?” Sardinha asked these party defectors and demanded that it is their duty to brief the Chief Minister about the ongoing protests and to respect the sentiments of the people.

Sardinha further stated that the government should approve projects solely keeping the interest of the State and its people at large.
