
Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Board Kochi- Kerala, Directorate of Agriculture Goa, and Sattari Taluka Farmers Service Co-Op Society Ltd organised a one-day district level seminar on cashew crops in Valpoi on Thursday, February 23, 2022. The chief guest for the seminar was MLA Parye Constituency Dr. Deviya Rane.
Director of Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development Board Kochi Shri Venkatesh Hubball and Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa, Shri Nevil Alphonso presided over the seminar. Chairperson Valpoi Muncipal Council Smt. Shaizin Shaikh, Vice Chairman Shri Anil Katkar, Zonal Agriculture Officer, Valpoi Shri Vishwanath Gawas, Vice Chairman the Sattari Taluka Farmers Service Co-Op Society Ltd Shri Sagun Wadkar and, chairman Shri Pandurang Gawas were also present.
In Goa, cashew cover the largest area among horticulture crops. This crop spans about 55,302 ha, with an annual production estimated at 27,070 t. The cashew industry is the main source of income for the people of Sattari, Pernem, Canacona, and Dharbandora
“We can drastically alter the way cashews are produced in the state of Goa by implementing new technology that was created using science principles. We must employ cutting-edge methods to boost production, assist farmers, and work to increase the price of cashew above its current level because it is Goa’s primary cash crop. According to MLA Dr. Deviya Rane, who has been working diligently to boost the momentum. “We are also steadfastly working to ensure farmers receive a fair price for their produce and to raise the production rank”.
The planting and care of cashew trees was another topic covered in the seminar. Dr. Rane encouraged that more such seminar should be organised to inform people about cashew nuts.
