
Awareness and sensitization programme for drivers, conductors and other staff of Kadamba Transport Corporation who come in regular contact with disabled persons was held today at Sanjay School, Porvorim. Programme which was organized jointly by the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and Directorate of Social Welfare was inaugurated by Secretary, Social Welfare, IAS, Shri Arun Kumar Mishra.
Chairman, KTC, Shri Deepak Naik; State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Shri Guruprasad Pawaskar; Managing Director, KTC, Shri Derick Neto; President, Disability Rights Association of Goa, Shri Avelino D’sa; Deputy Director, Social Welfare, Shri Taha Haziq; Member, State Advisory Board for Disabilities, Shri Prakash Kamat and Ex State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Smt Anuradha Joshi were present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion Shri Arun Kumar Mishra said, we should serve the disabled persons not to show sympathy towards them but as responsibility of the society. He further said, Goa is much ahead as compared to other States in terms of emotion and civilian sense with respect to persons with disabilities. Motivation level in self increases when one serves the disabled person, he said.
Chairman, KTC, Shri Dipak Naik stating that the image of KTC depends on the driver and conductors appealed to them to serve disabled persons and all other passengers respectfully.
M D, KTC, Shri Derick Neto said, KTC have taken initiative and created infrastructure like special seats, crane facility as per the provisions in the law to serve disabled persons. Sensitization is required among society to respect disabled persons, he said. 147 buses are already made disabled free, he added.
Shri Avelino D’sa also spoke on the occasion. Shri Guruprasad Pawaskar welcomed. Shri Taha Haziq proposed the vote of thanks.
