PANAJI: Former Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday said that if Deputy Speaker Isidore Fernandes produce proof of 10 per cent of developmental works in Canacona constituency during latter’s tenure then he on his own will request the BJP to nominate Isidore for the 2022 next Assembly elections.

Alleging that Isidore was making baseless allegations against him as far as developmental works in Canacona constituency were concerned, Tawadkar said, “If Isidore proves that he got sanctions and completed 10 per cent of development works in Canacona constituency during his term then I will request my party to give him the ticket to contest next Assembly elections.”

Isidore along with nine Congress legislators switched to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in July last year.

According to Tawadkar, the Deputy Speaker is making baseless allegations against him only to hide his failure to undertake development works in the constituency.

“When I was Cabinet Minister I undertook several development works and for the welfare of the people of Goa and especially Canacona constituency. All the details are available in my progress report book which I published and distributed to Canacona voters,” he said.

Tawadkar said since villagers of Gaondongorim, Khotigao and Shristal were facing water shortage he accorded top priority to build Gavnem dam and completed it at a cost of Rs 13 crore in the year 2017.  He moved another proposal to provide water supply to entire constituency at an estimated cost of Rs 43 crore.

He also sanctioned the construction of a water tank at Loliem and the work of the same is nearing completion.

Tawadkar said in order to improve electricity supply in the constituency, he moved a proposal of Rs 62 crore for laying underground cabling under Tribal Sun-Plan and replaced as many as 26 transformers.

Also under Tribal Sub-Plan, work of constructing Ashram school costing Rs 31 crore, Sanskurtik Bhavan and other works worth Rs 46 crore under Adivasi Vikas Yojana were also undertaken in Canacona and were awaiting inauguration, he said.

“During my tenure, I started work of developing Karvem, Devbag, Shristal and Gulem playgrounds which were now in completion stage. I request Isidore to take initiative and inaugurate these playgrounds,” said Tawadkar, who was also the former Sports Minister.

The former Minister charged that Isidore had failed to give jobs to unemployed youth from Canacona constituency and was more concerned to recruit his son for Awal Karkun’s post but rejected due to alleged fake certificates.

Tawadkar said Isidore soon after joining BJP, started praising him for undertaking various developmental works in Canacona constituency and had now started making baseless charges against him to hide his failures.

Tawadkar demanded that Isidore should give details of how much funds he got sanctioned and if he produces details of 10 per cent works undertaken by him during his current term then will request the BJP to nominate Isidore to contest next assembly polls from Canacona

After denied ticket to recontest 2017 Assembly elections, Tawadkar rebelled and contested unsuccessfully as an independent candidate.

To a question, Tawadkar said he will stake claim to contest 2022 Assembly elections.
