Goa now has a Bio Medical Waste Treatment Facility at Kundaim. Speaking at the inaugural, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the plant is entirely run on 100% PPP model. The Government has only invested in the land and not a ‘single rupee.’
Taking a dig at opposition on failure of waste management, Dr Sawant said that past Governments have not done anything in garbage treatment and that is why we see the garbage ‘dongors in Margao and Navelim.’ “They didn’t think about this but only dumped the garbage. We have spent crores of rupees on legacy waste. 25 years ago when the Government treasury was full, if they had spent a little on this, treatment of waste would have been easy. But they did’nt do it,” he said.
He scolded Goans for not applying civic sense in disposing their waste and urged people to throw garbage at designated bins and sites. “We can’t get everything for free. We have seen Goan taking their garbage and throwing it on the roadside or the sea. But every Goan has to stop this and bring it to designated areas. It will help the Government to treat it”
