SUPREME COURT LIKELY TO DECIDE ON RESUMPTION OF MINING IN GOA: JADHAV

PANAJI: The Supreme Court will have to take a call whether to allow restarting of mining operation in Goa when the petitions will come up for hearing on Thursday, 4th February.

According to Goa Barge Owners Association president Atul Jadhav, there are three petitions before the Supreme Court including one petition not to cancel Mining Concessions and another is review petition filed by the Goa Government whether to allow mining for 50 years from 1987 or to allow mining for 30 years.

Jadhav said other States have allowed second renewal of mining leases. On Sunday, 7 February 2021, the stoppage of mining in Goa will complete three years after Supreme Court cancelled second renewal of 88 mining leases.

Meanwhile, the Goa Mining Peoples Front (GMPF) will hold a protest march at Azad Maidan, Panaji on Monday, 8th February.
