The Department of Food and Public Distribution notified amendments to the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) Act 2015

The Department of Food and Public Distribution has issued a notification on 18 June 2021 to ensure proper distribution of subsidized foodgrains to the beneficiaries as per eligibility under the National Food Security Act 2013.

Food Security (Assistance Rules to State Governments) to encourage states which are using EPoS properly and saving Rs. 17 per quintal extra margin provided to them and to take steps to improve the transparency in the functioning of the targeted public distribution system under the National Food Security Act. ) Rule 7 of sub-rule (2) of 2015 has been amended with effect from 18th June, 2021 to allow any State / UT to purchase, operate and maintain point of sale equipment, its cost and additional margins as an incentive for its use. The savings can now be used for the purchase, operation and maintenance of electronic scales and POS integration. This will encourage other states to save by making proper use of EPOS equipment.
