The Income Tax Department is launching its new e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in  on June 7 , 2021 . The new e-filing portal aims to provide taxpayers with ease and a modern , fast service experience. Here are some features of the new portal:

  • All interactions and uploads or pending actions will be displayed on a single dashboard for taxpayers to follow up ;
  • ITR preparation software to help taxpayers pay ITRs 1, 4 (online and offline) and  ITR 2 (offline)  will be available free of cost with interactive questions , ITRs 3, 5, 6, 7 will be available soon.
  • Their profiles can be updated to provide taxpayers with specific income information including salary , home property , business / industry. Pre-filing facility including salary income , interest , dividend and capital gains will be available after uploading TDS and SFT statements (due date is 30 June 2021 ) ;
  • New call center to help taxpayers respond quickly to taxpayer questions. Detailed FAQ , user manual , video and chatbot / live agent also available ;

It has been clarified that to avoid any inconvenience to the taxpayer, the new tax payment system will be introduced on 18th June  2021 i.e. after the date of payment of advance tax installment. A mobile app will also be launched after the launch of the portal , allowing taxpayers to get acquainted with the new system with various features. This may take some time , so the department has requested the restraint of all taxpayers / stakeholders after the launch of the new tax portal as this is a huge change. This is another initiative of CBDT to facilitate compliance of taxpayers and other stakeholders.
