
Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural of 80th Annual Convention and International Sugar Expo at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao, said that India has the potential to become Atmanirbhar in all sectors of the economy. He commented how India had moved from becoming an importer of sugar to an exporter.
He further said that with the involvement of young people and new technology and research, there has been a surge in enthusiasm and innovation within the sugar industry and this will signal good days ahead for this sector in the country.
Union MoS for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti appreciated the presence of a large number of young people in the sugar industry. She said that India was indeed on the road to becoming self-reliant.
People who had brought about a radical change to the sugar industry were felicitated on the occasion. Secretary, Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, Shri Sudhanshu Pandey, NRI Commissioner, Government of Goa, Shri Narendra Sawaikar were among other dignitaries also present for the inaugural.
