PANAJI: People should learn and practice yoga not only for its health benefits but also to promote it and earn a livelihood, said Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira.
He was speaking at the International Yoga Day program held at Peddem sports complex, Mapusa on Tuesday.
“We should spread the word about the benefits of yoga. According to me, yoga is a very ancient system in India. It has been taken to an international level and promoted by the government of India. It is something wonderful because yoga, apart from improving our health system, also teaches us a sense of discipline. Discipline will be your success and this will earn you laurels. If you have discipline in sports, art, culture, and even education, it will help you achieve results, and will keep you going for a complete and happy life,” Ferreira told the gathering of students at the program.
He also said that yoga can be an avenue for teaching and earning a livelihood.
“Many foreigners are coming here and learning yoga, and going back to teach it. So why should our children not learn this.? Yoga is not only a science or discipline, it is now becoming a business. Why should we not take advantage of it and promote it? Our people can earn by teaching yoga,” he said.
Later, the MLA joined the students in the yoga session, led by instructors Ashok Salgaonkar and Sandeep Morajkar.
Sunil Gawas, in-charge of Peddem sports complex, was also present.
